Holiday packing essentials – plus a cool(ing) giveaway!
If you’re heading off on holiday – at last! – don’t panic when you’re packing. These essentials will keep your family healthy over the hols:
For dry, itchy and summery skin, try Care Itcheze. It is a cooling spray gel with a revolutionary patented technology called ‘OsmoCare’ which rehydrates and moisturises skin by drawing water to the surface. Care ItchEze Cooling Spray Gel is safe to use on children as young as six months. Convenient and easy to use spray format. Would be nice to have on a hospital bedside as well. Also, good for hot and bothered parents!
Care ITCHeze Cooling Spray Gel costs £7.49 for a 120ml family sized pack. Available from Wilkinson’s, Waitrose and independent pharmacies nationwide.
While splashing around and laying on the beach, you’ve missed a bit of slip, slap, slop. Medicine cabinet and holiday SOS essential, Acriflex Skin Cooling Gel (£3.99, Morrisons) has been specifically developed to help cool and soothe reddened skin.
Itchy, red mosquito bites will drive you and your little ones crazy. To help prevent the bugs attacking in the first place many holidaymakers swear by taking an oral Vitamin B1 supplement (£4.95, Nature’s Best, www.naturesbest.co.uk) before you go. Allegedly the vitamin is excreted in the sweat and puts off biting insects. Also pack Tea tree oil (£5.01, Care, available from Sainsburys) to dab onto pulse points – the summery scent is well known for repelling insects.
Antibacterial hand gel
Pop a bottle of Milton Antibacterial Hand Gel (£2.19 for a travel-sized 100ml sized bottle) in your luggage for quick and easy hand washing on the go. It’s perfectly safe for children and can be used before and after changing the baby. The gel is clinically proven to kill bacteria including salmonella and listeria, as well as viruses and fungi, and it doesn’t require any water so you can use it anywhere.
Milton Sterilising Tablets (£2.29 for 28) are a hand-bag sized alternative to carrying bulky sterilising equipment and work in just 15 minutes, killing all bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores. The tablets have a double concentration compared to rival products, with just one tablet needed for five litres of cold water. They are perfect for sterilising all babies feeding utensils including bottles, breast-feeding equipment and teething rings. You can also use the tablets to sterilise local tap water. Just add a quarter of a Milton Sterilising Tablet to 12.5 litres of water and leave to stand for 30 minutes before drinking. It leaves no unpleasant after taste and will kill any harmful bacteria that may be present in the water.
The last thing you need is to have to look for a pharmacy when stomach bugs strike. So don’t get caught out, and make sure you have some Care Kaolin Mixture to hand. Suitable for adults and children (from 6 years old), it helps provide relief from the symptoms of occasional diarrhoea and stomach upset by gently removing toxic substances from the digestive system, and increasing the bulk of solid waste. For children under 6 years old, Care Kaolin Mixture for Children can help relieve diarrhoea and upset stomachs. Care Kaolin Mixture (£1.45 for 200ml) and Care Kaolin Mixture for Children (£1.34 for 100ml) are available from Lloyds Pharmacy, Sainsbury’s Pharmacy and independent pharmacies nationwide.
